Vertebroplasty

What is Vertebroplasty?

Vertebroplasty is a minimally invasive procedure that is typically done on an outpatient basis. This therapy uses image guided technology to strengthen the damaged or weakened areas of the spine. The vertebra of the spine can be damaged by injury, osteoporosis, or even in some instances cancer. Vertebroplasty can improve a patient's everyday life and functionality. This procedure allows for patients to return to their previous activity level without fear of further spinal break down. Vertebroplasty is usually successful at relieving compression fracture pain. The procedure itself is done by injecting a cement mixture into the fractured bone.
